Living in North Wales Tom McLay learnt to push his kayaking abilities to become a river guide and hone his mountain biking and hill skills. Now, from battling through Bolivian jungle to hiking high passes in Tibet, Tom thrives on culturally diverse and exploratory river expeditions.
Working full time as a Paramedic, he affords plenty of time to both personal and professional expeditions and highlights some of his favourite journeys as the Humla Karnali; Western Nepal, Grand Canyon of the Stikine; British Columbia and the Yangtze River, Western Sichuan.
Awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship in 2016 for river exploration in Western China he also plays an active role in river conservation.
After responding to the Rohingyan refugee crisis on the Bengali-Burmese border in Autumn 2017 Tom wanted to expand his skillset and has begun the journey to become an advanced practitioner and will be away working in Burma and Lesotho this winter.
