Expedition & Wilderness Medicine job oppurtunties in Zambia, Namibia, Netherlands, UK & Ireland.
“Do you want to be a Safari Doctor? Doctors urgently required for Luangwa Valley Safari Association, Zambia from December 2011. URGENT UPDATE THIS POST NOW NEEDS TO BE FILLED BY SEPTEMBER 16th
You will live and work near Luangwa National Park, a remote and beautiful area famous for its wildlife. Part of the job is to care for staff and clients of local safari lodges, sometimes driving deep into the park to do a ‘home’ visit. Most of your time will be dedicated to helping a local rural clinic where you will see a wide range of tropical illnesses, the occasional wild animal injury and presentations similar to general practice at home. Accommodation and meals are provided at one of the safari lodges, with your own ‘Doc’s house’ and car. You will also have an allowance and US$1200 towards flights.
For me the best bit was driving two hours through the park to see a patient at one of the bushcamps. I think I stopped every 30 minutes just to look at another animal or the scenery and after the consultation was rewarded with a G&T to sit with on the verandah overlooking the river. Can’t remember what was wrong with the patient! Dr Hazel Dobinson.
