EXPEDITION MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
Rich is a GP and Emergency Medicine Middle Grade with a broad interest in delivering medicine in austere environments. He trained at Peninsula Medical School in the south-west of England, and since then has gone on to gain postgraduate qualifications in Tropical Medicine (DTMH), Obstetrics & Gynaecology (DRCOG), Medical Education (PGCME), and of course General Practice (MRCGP).
He works as a locum GP in Somerset and an ED Middle Grade in Southampton, which is a Major Trauma Centre.
Rich has planned, supported and led expeditions in over 60 countries, including both polar regions. He actively contributes to the expedition and education communities as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the Higher Education Academy. He is a proud WEM faculty member, having taught on courses in both hemispheres, written curricula, and developed online learning modules for them.
In his spare time, Rich can be found biking, climbing, ski touring, or surfing. He lives in the South West of England with his long-suffering and wonderful wife, Dr Jodie Sage.
