TDA Global Cycling organises trans-continental cycling expeditions on 6 continents and over 80 countries. Their expeditions are from 1 month to 5.5 months long. On our more remote expeditions, they have an Expedition Medic on the staff.

The main responsibility of the Expedition Medic is to take a lead role with all first aid and emergency situations on the expedition involving clients or staff. The Medic also deals with primary health care issues on the expedition, within their scope of practice, and assists clients to access hospital or clinic care for issues unresolvable on the expedition, in consultation with the Expedition Leader.

The Medic maintains the medical inventory for the first aid kits and tracks medical expenses incurred during the expedition. The Medic also documents all medical assistance given during the expedition.

The Medic is also part of the staff rotation during the expedition, which includes tasks such as cycling sweep behind the last cyclist on the road, preparing roadside lunches, assisting in the kitchen and with general camp duties, and other tasks as directed by the Expedition Leader.
