A few years ago, World Extreme Medicine (WEM) asked itself the question ‘who takes care of the carers?’ when it came to medical professionals working in ‘extremes’; in war zones, as expedition medics, paramedics, as an isolated and overwhelmed GP, or as a nurse in a busy Emergency Department.
We then asked ourselves the question ‘what can WEM do to help?’ and we came up with our answer; WEMSki. A week of Mental Wellness and Leadership with incredible faculty and inspirational content created alongside extreme environment specialist Dr Nathan Smith. The week features lectures and workshops examining the clinical psychology of leadership and teamwork in stressful working environments, whether that be in the hospital or on an expedition.
Why is WEMski so important to us?
With our history and heritage firmly steeped in Expedition and Wilderness Medicine, Special Forces Medicine and working in some of the planets most remote, and dangerous locations, we know the pressures under which clinicians, nurses and paramedics have to work. WEMSki offers highly experienced practitioners a chance to learn from their experiences, as well as access top tips from the field, ‘upskill’ themselves through a series of workshops, learning clinical and practical skills which will serve you well in remote areas. At the core of WEMski’s timetable is Mental Wellness and Leadership, so you’ll spend the week hearing real-world experiences of extreme physical and psychological challenges, excellence in leadership and the mental health challenges of modern day medicine. Alongside a jam-packed timetable, we’ve also squeezed in networking sessions on the slopes, full days of skiing and a Mountain Top Party.
WEMski is designed to equip you with the tools to not just cope, but to thrive in extreme environments.
Voted Best European Resort in the London-based World Snow Awards, Livigno is a leading winter location with a fantastic infrastructure, including Europe’s largest wellness facility, a modern lift system accessing over 125km of skiing in addition to an extensive freeride mountain, 45km of cross-country walking/skiing paths and several extensive snow-parks that play host to international events.
Livigno is also tax-free making it one of the most reasonably priced European resorts despite the very high standards.
Do I have to be good at skiing to attend?
No! Don’t fret if you’ve never been skiing, or are just a beginner. It’s super easy to book lessons, and if you don’t fancy hitting the slopes then there are a host of other pretty amazing facilities to keep you busy!
