This five-day Dive Medicine Course in Oman equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to assess, manage, and treat diving-related medical emergencies in remote and expedition settings.
Set in the Musandam Peninsula, one of the most striking marine environments in the region, the course blends focused teaching, practical workshops, and real-world diving scenarios. You’ll move beyond classroom-based learning and apply dive medicine principles directly in open water, developing confidence in decision-making under pressure.
For the duration of the course, you’ll live and train aboard a traditional Omani dhow, creating a fully immersive expedition-style learning environment where medical training and operational realities go hand in hand.

Field-Based Training & Practical Diving
A fully immersive programme combining lectures, workshops, and scenario-based learning delivered both on board and in the water.

CPD & Course Certification
This course has been awarded 34 CPD hours by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
On completion, you’ll receive a certificate recognising your training in dive medicine.

Is this course right for me?

What diving experience is required?
Participants must hold PADI Open Water certification (or equivalent) and have at least 10 logged dives. If you’re unsure whether you meet the requirements, we recommend contacting the team before booking.
How many dives will I complete?
You’ll complete 10 dives across the course, integrated with teaching and practical medical scenarios.
What equipment is provided?
Tanks, gas and weights are included. Personal dive equipment must be brought or arranged for hire in advance. A full kit list is provided in the course guide that you will receive upon booking but as a minimum we recommend:
Essential items:
- Log book and dive certification (you will not be allowed to dive without these)
- Mask and snorkel *
- Fins *
- 3mm wetsuit, long or shortie (adjust to personal preference, water temp ~22-26oC)*
- Dive computer – essential
- Reel and DSMB
- BCD – lightweight *
- Regulator – complete with SPG *
- Whistle
- Cutting tool
- 1 refillable water/drinks bottle

Clothing should include:
- Long sleeve shirt
- Long trousers or sarong
- Shorts, lightweight
- Several t-shirts

- 2 pairs of swimming trunks/ swimming costumes/bikini

What course content is covered?
The Dive Medicine Course provides a comprehensive introduction to the medical, physiological, and operational challenges associated with diving and marine expeditions.
Course content is delivered through a combination of lectures, practical workshops, and in-water application, allowing participants to apply learning directly to real dive environments throughout the week.

- Decompression illness part 1
- Dangerous marine animals (reinforcing safe diving practices)
- Risk Assessment (plus O2 and med kit on boat)
- Fitness to dive, pre-existing conditions
- Decompression illness part 2
- Volunteer marine expeditions
- Barotrauma/CAGE/Nitrogen narcosis
- Marine envenomation
- Specialist diving
- Common medical injuries on diving expeditions
- In water and chamber recompression therapy
- Full face masks
- First Aid kits

- Expedition treatment of drowning, hypothermia

Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Comprehensive travel and medical insurance is mandatory and must include cover for diving, aeromedical evacuation, and repatriation. We reserve the right to refuse participation without adequate insurance in place.
Travel & Accommodation
You’ll fly into Dubai International Airport, where transfers are provided to Sheesa Beach in Oman. From there, you’ll board the dhow and meet the course faculty.
All meals, soft drinks, and water are provided throughout the course. Please note the dhow is alcohol free.
