Charlie Fleury and Adam Baker share their ocean rowing challenges with the WEM community. This year, with no previous rowing experience, they decided to take on both of the ‘World’s toughest rows’, a 3000 mile Atlantic crossing and a 2000 mile circumnavigation of Great Britain.
They will be discussing the life threatening situations that they faced, the strength of mindset required and the challenges of racing as a mixed team in the ultra-endurance arena. With isolation a key factor of the Atlantic row, they will delve into what it feels to be closer to humans on the international space station than those on dry land, of swimming with 5 miles of ocean beneath you and of overcoming the fear of being followed by sharks.
The stark contrasts between the rows together with the mental and physical challenges that they faced will be explored.
