Snakebite; planning an expedition into an area where there are snakes? Attend this session to hear more about how to reduce the risk of being bitten by a snake and what to do if you are! Learn more about the impact of snakebite specifically in Myanmar and their venomous snakes.

Until relatively recently the budget for the film ‘Snakes on a Plane’ was greater than all the money that had been dedicated to snakebite research in the last 10 years. Fortunately, snakebite has now been given the recognition it deserves as a public health crisis. Snakebite affects the rural poor and Myanmar is one of the countries with a particularly high burden of disease in South-East Asia.

Dr Bethany Moos spent seven months working with local colleagues in Yangon, Myanmar, conducting research and developing new snakebite education resources. Alongside her clinical work, Beth is now working on the development of a snakebite toolkit for community engagement for the World Health Organization
