It’s been quite the week at World Extreme Medicine…Extreme Medicine fellows, Adam and Charlie, set off on the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, we hosted another epic live learning webinar with mountain expedition expert Krishna Thapa, and we round it off by celebrating three World Extreme Medicine Faculty graduations.
The World Extreme Medicine faculty is at the heart of everything we do. We love hearing their success stories and offering support and experiences to help them along their journey. We wanted to share this trio of graduation news to say massive well done and to highlight just some of the extraordinary opportunities that are out there.
Amy
Congratulations to Amy!
Who received an Advanced Clinical Practitioners credential from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. This involves completing a portfolio of evidence against a set of competencies defined in the RCEM ACP curriculum. Which allows for standardisation and consistency to be achieved amongst RCEM credentialed ACPs.
Amy has worked worked as part of the World Extreme Medicine Faculty for the last 5 years, including on a TV set in the South Pacific and teaching on our UK Extreme Medicine Courses and the annual World Extreme Medicine Conference.
Karen
Congratulations to Karen!
Who received a Master of Science Advanced Clinical Practice with distinction from The University of Salford. Having successfully completed the MSc course in Autumn 2019, a delayed graduation due to the Covid19 pandemic, meant it was even more special to finally be able to celebrate her achievement.
Karen’s first introduction to World Extreme Medicine was as an attendee of our Expedition & Wilderness Medicine Keswick course back in 2010. Since then she has since been involved in facilitating our Extreme Medicine Courses, supporting the World Extreme Medicine Conference and as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Exeter Medical School facilitating MSc-level education in humanitarian and disaster response; classroom and field-based teaching.
Mark
And last but by no means least, congratulations to Mark!
World Extreme Medicine founder, Mark, received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree for making global adventuring more accessible and safer from the University of Exeter Medical school.
Having founded World Extreme Medicine out of a campfire discussion in the Namib Desert 20 years ago, Mark has had one aim – to bring the most adventurous medical training to healthcare workers. Over 20 years later, we have grown to provide a range of services that have supported humanitarian agencies, charities, government organisations, and film & TV networks around the globe. All while staying true to our adventurous roots.
A remarkable recognition and Mark expressed his gratitude to the extreme medicine community…
“I’m incredibly honoured to be receiving this award. However, my feeling is that I am collecting this honour on behalf of all of my colleagues and members of the extreme medicine community, who have worked tirelessly with indefatigable energy developing this versatile much-needed field of medicine”
We raise a glass to all three graduates, well done on your fantastic achievements!
